I love Rachel McAdams. I have even admitted to having a slight girl crush on her. But I didn't even recognize her on this cover of Vogue.
I mean, it doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out why this picture is so unflattering. SHE LOOKS OLD. The hair color and length aren't the problem, it's the way it's styled....paired with the outfit. I'm not gonna lie, at first glance I thought it was Meryl Streep (not that she isn't fabulous....because she is...she's just not exactly young).
Also, I believe that Rachel looks MUCH better as a brunette (agree?). Nothing wrong with being blond (I am myself) but if a look works, STICK WITH IT. I know Rachel likes to experiment with her look which is totally fine..but couldn't Vogue have put this together better? I don't know.... it just looks.....blah.
Better luck next time, Vogue.

Play Dress Up With Zoe
This Rachel Zoe Barbie doll is up for auction for charity. What a great idea. I mean who hasn't wanted to play dress up with Rachel Zoe? (Well, I kind of hoped that she would dress me up.) The proceeds go to Project Angel Food. Click here to place your bid!
Maybe She Needs Some Hairspray?
So....Amanda Bynes on the cover of Cosmo for January 2010....
Not really a fan of this look.
She's too blond, too tan, and with the pairing of the light pink and yellow...I don't know...it just reads bimbo to me. And I know that that's the farthest thing from being her! I didn't even realize it was her at first.
Then again, I have been underwhelmed by Cosmo. I hate to say it, but I'm kind of sick of it. It's like, how many sex positions do you need to know? Offer me something I haven't seen from you before, Cosmo.
That's all.

Au Revoir Lucky
I am officially a retired Lucky magazine intern.
Friday was my last day and being that my boss Kofi wasn't in, I figured it was going to be a breeze.
I was wrong.
We were incredibly busy. There was a photo shoot going on downtown, so you better believe there were plenty of errands to run. I ran all over mid town picking up samples from designers, quickly checked them in, and the other intern ran them to the shoot. Meanwhile, I was left to do tons of projects including returns, check ins, organization..the works. I was extremely exhausted by the end of the day.
It was a nice reminder though of how far I've come. In the beginning of this semester, when I first started the internship, I was getting pretty hard on myself. Even though I had fashion closet experience, it was a different publication, so things were run differently and I was having a hard time. But before long, I got the grasp of everything. I felt really appreciated on Friday when had to say goodbye to my boss, Becca. She told me that I could contact her for a reference any time and that she thought I did a great job. And you know what? I think I did too.
You have to work hard at what you love to get where you want to be. I'm so tempted to apply for another internship for next semester, now that this one is over, but my schedule won't allow it.
One semester left until I have to look for a job. Let's hope the fashion magazine industry will turn around a little and will be looking for fresh faces, soon.
xoxo

Only One Day Left
Today was my second to last day of my internship at Lucky. I didn't realize how sad it was going to make me until today. Yes, I woke up numerous mornings cursing the fact that the sun was not yet up, so why should I? Also, I definitely got down on myself from time to time when I would spend hour after hour searching for a purse and coming up empty handed. But now that it is almost over, I know for a fact that I definitely going to miss it. I learned so much and feel that I am another step closer of fulfilling my dreams. (Sappy, I know).
When I don't have an internship in the industry, I feel out of the loop. Like the fashion world is existing without me. Only one more semester until I am done with college. Then the real fun begins...the search for a job! That's incredibly scary especially now that the fashion industry is folding magazines left and right. But, people will always need fashion. We can't walk around naked! So there will be a job for me out there.
Stay tuned for a post about my last day.

Belated Holiday Greetings!
Hey everyone!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I didn't bring my laptop home with me this weekend so here is my belated greeting:
So cute right??
Anyways, I had a great Thanksgiving, and I definitely ate too much! (Gunna try to slim down before Christmas and my birthday...just a few pounds at least!).
And what is the best part of Thanksgiving, with the exception of the food of course?: Black Friday!
I woke up at 3 am on Friday after sleeping over my best friend Caly's house. We dragged ourselves out of bed and threw clothes on. We then got coffee from Dunkin Donuts and headed to Kohls. Now keep this in mind: I had only a list of people to buy for. I had no idea what I was getting them.
We got to Kohl's around 3:50am and we headed toward the building, noting the huge line going down the parking lot. People started yelling at us and others who weren't getting in line. We didn't want to walk all the way to the end of the line just to walk up to the building again, but we also didn't want to cut everyone (we're not bitches lol). So we waited until the entire line went into the building when it opened then went in.
Boy was it a mad house in there.
Caly needed some specific stuff so we went looking for that and I found some stuff on the way. I ran into some people from high school and middle school which was nice but also a little embarrassing because I looked like hell with no make up and crappy hair. (People, you have to understand...it was 4 am..lol)
After our rendezvous at Kohls we went across the street to the mall. The line from target went all the way down one side of the mall and started to loop back again. While we waited for it to open, (and for the line to die down), we killed time in Sears and Macy's. We then went into Target and got a few items, then we made our way to American Eagle and finally ended with Victoria's Secret. We ended our shopping day at 8 am. I went back home and slept until noon.
It was by far the shortest shopping day on Black Friday ever. But hey, we're in a recession.
I hope everyone who braved Black Friday behaved themselves and had fun. People lose track that this is about Christmas and Christmas isn't about getting your child the perfect toy. For those of you who enjoy it for sport, like we do, hats off. It can get brutal.

Sigh...
Irina won....yuck.
Why did they allow that bitch to win? Yes hers was the most cohesive, but anyone's would be if they used entirely one color and stuck a bunch of matching hats on everyone's head.
I never pick the winner....not once....
Maybe I just like nice people haha.
Whatevs. Congrats I guess.
Next season starts January 14th!!! Season 7 here we come!!!

Anna Sighting!!!
OMG.
Today I had my first ever Anna Wintour sighting at my internship at Conde Nast.
My boss, Kofi, asked me to go to the messenger center, which is in the lobby, to drop something off and pick something up. So I went down there, not being the first time I have ever had to do this, dropped off a package, picked up a package, etc. etc. When I got on the elevator to return to the office, I pressed the number 6 (for Lucky's floor) and waited as other people entered the elevator.
All of a sudden the elevator directly across from mine opened and out walked Anna. She stepped out, stopped, and then (I kid you not) looked directly at me. I am curious to know what my face looked like because I literally gasped. I made eye contact with her! (Which I read in her biography Front Row, you are not suppose to do that...oh well.) She wasn't even wearing her sunglasses. It happened so quickly, but what I do remember is that she was wearing a green tweed jacket and I remember thinking, "Oh my god. That bob is flawless."
Then, as quickly as she appeared, she strutted off to whatever fabulous destination she was headed to. I regained my composure (hopefully) while still retaining a huge grin on my face. I feel like this experience didn't have the same effect on the other passengers of my elevator as it did on me. I immediately text and called everyone I knew. My boyfriend even thought it was cool, but thought that I was gushing a bit too much. I had to explain to him: this woman is a fashion ICON. No no no, a LEGEND.
Ah. It had been a good day already, but once that happened it was the best one I have had at my internship to date.I was afraid I would never catch a glimpse of her. But I can die a little happier now that I have. Jk.....kind of....

You all need to put this on your Christmas list. I know I did.

Smooth Moove Bazaar.....
So I almost missed the newest issue of Harper's Bazaar. (I know....how could I, right?) You see, it seemed camouflaged with all the gossip rags and tabloids, because low and behold...who's on the cover? The Twilight costars and lovers, Kristen Stuart and Robert Pattinson.
Now it's no secret that this magazine hasn't been doing well in the shaky industry of fashion publications. So, at first glance, I was like "you've got to be f**king kidding me," (because I for one am sick of seeing their faces on....well...EVERYTHING) but then I thought about it for a hot sec. I realized that this was a brilliant and strategic move. What better way to get your publications sold? They will be off the stands before you can say "New Moon." Smart thinking, Glenda.
Another plus: nowhere on the cover does it say "Fabulous At Every Age", let alone being the main headline. I think Bazaar finally got the hint that they were beating a dead horse. It's definitely a breath of fresh air.

Beauty Definitely Has Its Limits
I was watching one of my favorite childhood movies "Fluke" when a scene involving cosmetic testing on animals. A light ball went off in my head. I was aware about fur, leathers, suede, etc. and how I am totally against it. But what about animal testing? Isn't it just as bad, if not worse?
I did my research and I have decided to change all of my products to animal friendly products. I suggest everyone does the same. Below are a list of some but not all of the animal friendly cosmetics. Trust me there are a lot:
Almay
Kate Spade
Stila
Avon
Kiss My Face
Victoria's Secret
Bath and Body Works
La Mer
Bobbi Brown
Liz Claiborne
The Body Shop
M.A.C.
Botanical Skin Works
Mary Kay
But's Bees
Ojon
Clinique
ONE Group
e.l.f. cosmetics
OPI
Estee Lauder
Palmers
Flirt!
Smashbox
Again, there are a ton of other products. Visit sites like leapingbunny.org and mymakeupmirror. Or just Google it! Get informed! Animals have rights too.
Not so pretty right?

Holidays in a Hurry
So, we've been in this lovely month of November for exactly 6 days now. And already there are Christmas commercials on TV, fake Christmas trees in malls and store displays, and not to mention it's as cold as the North Pole. I'm the absolute biggest fan of Christmas I know, but I usually don't like starting the festivities until....perhaps after Thanksgiving...(crazy thought, right?).
The only thing I allow myself to do this early is check out the Gift Guides in my favorite magazines to help me trigger ideas of items I might add to my list. (I get double the goodies because my birthday is 10 days before Jesus'.)
One magazine in particular is doing something extra this year. Glamour has not one, not two, not three...but FOUR different cover selections for their December issue. It is to celebrate their "Women of the Year" feature. The women on these covers are Rihanna, Amy Poehler, Serena Williams, Maria Shriver, and First Lady, Michelle Obama.
Click here to see the covers up close.
However, since people have decided to start bringing Christmas around earlier every year, I decided to start looking for my birthday/Christmas presents. Ya know. Just in case.
For those who know me and pay attention to me at all, they know that I LOOOVE jewelry with animals on it. I don't know what it is about it (although I am quite the animal lover.) This item though, is the very first thing on my list.
It's by Obey and it's called "The Eye of the Tiger." It's dipped in 18K gold and is only $26. Chic and cheap. Gotta love it.
But my advice to everyone. Try to hold off on getting the Christmas stuff out at least until Thanksgiving. Trust me. This way you won't take it for granted

It's Only Getting Worse...
I was reading my favorite fashion blog, Fashionista, and it looks like the lay offs aren't taking any breaks.
According to Fashionista, my building, Conde Nast, is continuing their lay offs. Teen Vogue lost some people on the business side and Details magazine lost their executive editor and fashion director.
At least there weren't any foldings....today....
Let's hope this all turns around real soon.

Rumors are just that....I hope...
I saw my friend Claudia yesterday who is currently interning at Nylon magazine in the beauty department. I love catching up with her because we are both on the same journey to achieving our dreams in the fashion publication industry.
She told me some disturbing news though. She had heard from her boss at Nylon that Allure may be folding. Now it's no secret that Conde Nast has been going through some hard times. A couple of weeks ago Gourmet, Cookie, Modern Bride, and Elegant Bride all folded. (Trust me I saw it first hand. Lucky's digital studio is on the same floor Cookie was on and one day I went up there and the sign was torn down. It was very sad.)
I'm really hoping that Allure doesn't fold. It may not be my favorite fashion magazine, but I do like it a lot. Also, as this trend continues, my future job options are diminishing. It's really scary.
Also, Claudia told me that Harper's Bazaar may be the next Hearst Publication to fold. If this is true, I may fall into a deep depression.

The Rocky Horror
I don't know if I'm the only one...but I am having a seriously hard time figuring out what to do or be for Halloween, and there is only a week left!!
So, I've decided to go onto Polyvore.com and create costume ideas using the merchandise they have there.

Underwhelmed By Whitney Eve Designs
After watching the episode of the City tonight, I decided to check Whitney Port's twitter page, just to see what she had to say. I guess she just started recently advertising her clothing line's website on there. Being new to this, I decided to check it out.
What I found wasn't all that pretty.
This looks very cheap and poorly made, and quite frankly is too short. I don't think this would flatter anyone.
Hunny, this looks like something 14 year olds will be wearing to their High School's homecoming. Again, it looks cheap. I feel like I could find this at Mandee's or something.
And what are with these sweatpants? They are not only random but the way they are being portrayed reminds me of the ads for the Bad Girl's Club apparel where they are all topless.
Now I will give the girl some credit. There were a couple of decent outfits. However, I am concerned about the quality. Although the prices of her clothing range from $60-$400, I feel that clothing may be questionable when it comes to the caliber of taste.

Nothing personal Whit. I love you to pieces, regardless.

Fashion Mags Turning A New Leaf?
I have been reading my monthlies and have been very impressed with the common topic of every woman being confident about their bodies, no matter what shape or size.
In Marie Claire, I was truly hooked on the article "Big Girl in a Skinny World," which is about a girl named Ashley Falcon who is an aspiring stylist and is not by any means a size zero, and is proud of it. She talks about her struggles with finding chic clothing for her size, but is confident in herself. She spoke about how finding the perfect pair of jeans is the most difficult task (which is true for most women I know). Regardless of being heavier than the stereotypical fashionista, the girl knows how to rock what the good lord gave her.
This next article originated in the September issue of Glamour but resurfaced for this month's. It's about all the praise that Lizzi Miller has received for sitting nude at a photo shoot and refusing to get airbrushed. Women all over the country not only applauded her, but were inspired by her. Miller is a size 12-14 and isn't technically a plus size, but her curves her often airbrushed.
I am so glad that she didn't get airbrushed because she is stunning. Truly beautiful.
Glamour then promised to its readers different body shaped women in the magazine in future issues. Are these fashion mags starting to advocate healthier body image. All I can say is it's about time.

I'm Ga Ga About This Trend
I will be the first to tell you that I do sometimes get obsessed with trends. When trend came out, I fell in love. However, finding the perfect one wasn't as easy as I thought. I wanted an elaborate one but not one that was too over the top. Also, I couldn't afford the really expensive ones and the ones I could afford weren't up to my satisfaction.
But I finally found the one...
(Sorry about the poor image...the photo was taken with my cell lol).
I'm in love with it. It's perfect. And it was a mere $30. I found it in this little shop called "Sparkle" that was just full of jewelry. Most of the stuff there wasn't my taste but I was so happy when I saw this. Don't you love it? I can't wait to wear it!!
