Nina Garcia Comes Tuesday!!

My internship at Marie Claire has been pretty exciting and a lot of work so far.

But I feel as though the hardest work is yet to come.

As known throughout the entire fashion industry, Nina Garcia is going to be the fashion director of Marie Claire starting this month (September). And that means..starting Tuesday...her reign begins.

We've had a lot of work cut out for us in order to prepare for Nina's arrival. A LOT more than I can actually say. We've had to completely clean and organize the fashion closet, which consisted of returning more than half of the samples back to the designers. I even had to go in on Friday even though we were suppose to have it off for a long Labor Day weekend. I didn't really mind because I understand the importance of Nina's arrival.

I like the fact that I have to prove myself, in a way. It makes me even more determined than I already was. Also, I love the other interns I am working with. They are all very sweet and funny and nice. The only thing that's been rough is the long hours and the lack of food I seem to get throughout the days there. But that is pretty much to be expected.

Anyway, I will update about more of my experience at the magazine and most importantly..working with Nina.

Dream Come True

The Hearst Corporation building on 57th near Columbus Circle.

It's finally happened. I got a big break!

Thursday, August 31, 2008 I had my lovely interview on 57th Street, in the Hearst building with Lisa Tam of Marie Claire magazine.

I wasn't nervous about the interview. I was just really excited. I did a lot of preparation mentally and physically (yea...I even got my hair done for the interview).

But once I sat down for the interview...I was afraid I wasn't as prepared as I thought I was. First off, I didn't bring a copy of my resume (which was the first thing she asked for) because I had emailed it to her with my cover letter. It was okay though, she was really sweet about it. She just went and printed it out.

Then the questioning began. The hardest question wasn't a question at all. It was simply: "Tell me about yourself". I hate that one because I never know what they want to know. I could tell them about my boyfriend or my three golden retrievers...but that wouldn't probably do me any good. So I did the schooling, extra corricular...blah blah blah. But then I froze. I didn't know where else to go with it.

Luckily I found a way to continue.

The remainder of the interview was great. It felt as though we were indulged in conversation..and from my stand point...I felt we really hit it off.

Although I felt it went great, by the time I left, I was unceratin about whether or not I was going to get it.

But guess what...

I DID!!!

This fall I will be interning Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays at Marie Claire!!!!

Ahhhhhh :-) :-) !!!!!!!
